Seagulls are Aggressive

Seagulls are aggressive

“Seagulls are agressive. Do not feed them.”

I spotted this sign by Bridlington harbour. Are seagulls really aggressive? Have you ever been attacked by one? :-)

I've been attacked by a swan but not a seagull. I love the sound of them tho...

I've been walked all over by greedy ducks, but never attacked by a seagull.

Yes, seagulls are aggressive sometimes. I've never been hurt by one and they don't scare me but if you feed them, they will start to swarm around you. Just depends how comfortable you are with wildlife.

Ha! They weren't aggressive that I saw in Whitby, but flipping bold!! The pigeons in the park next to my work make me feel like I am walking through The Birds sequel every morning.

I've fed a lot of seagulls. They'll flock around you for the food, but move away if you walk towards them. Our family name for them was "water pigeons". Just as harmless as a pigeon, but they like to hang out around water.

Squirrels are pretty aggressive out on the west coast, in Stanley Park. Even if you threaten to throw stuff at them they will still keep coming, trying to climb on you, etc.

well, they might poop on you? Here is a post about how to tell the sex of them. Don't worry it (this one from Steve) is clean!

Never! I haven't ever been able to get close enough to find out, though they're very tempted by food.

I love your new logo/avatar/whatever it's called!

Seagulls are indeed aggressive. But only in summer, in their breeding season, before their chiks can fly. They are very teritorial and will attack if you get too close. I get attacked frequently when passing next to the building they nest on. You gotta watch your back, they only attack from behind, if you look at them, they stop and try to get behind you again. It's quite a warzone.

At Balmoral Beach in Sydney the seagulls are super aggressive. There's a fish and chips store down near the beach and over the years the seagulls have learned that they can not only steal the food out of your hand, but also peck at the children so they drop their food. The seagulls then decend on the food while the children run away crying. It's happened to my kid, so now I keep watch while the wife and kids eat and fend the seagulls off. Please don't feed the seagulls.

I’m very happy to read this. This is the kind of details that needs to be given and not the accidental misinformation that is at the other blogs. Appreciate your sharing this best doc.
