Whitby harbour is home to two lighthouses. The west lighthouse was built in 1835 and is the tallest at 25m. For a small fee it's possible to climb the 81 steps to admire the view :-)

I didn't know it was possible to climb the steps. Next time I'm in Whitby...
(Mind you, the 199 tower above the lighthouse and are free.)
Aaaaah, right, okay. I definitely did not see that pretty structure when I was in Whitby! I'm quite confident I would have remembered it.
Ooh I love lighthouses. I used to visit all of the ones when I lived on Martha's Vineyeard. One of the things I miss about living here in Charlotte.
I love lighthouses. We are surrounded with lakes as big a seas where I live, but I've only ever seen one lighthouse even though we have hundreds.
Sad from March 2012 cant climb the stairs of the lighthouse needs work doing to it.
