The Great Gatehouse at Hampton Court

The Great Gatehouse is the focal point of Hampton Court's west front. Originally the towers would have been topped with cupola. Hampton Court was built for Thomas Wolsey who later gave it as a gift to King Henry VIII.

Is it just me, or does that look quite spooky, designers certainly new how to create amazing building in those days..

I read, just last night, that the reason for so many castles/palaces built a short distance outside London was to escape the regular outbreaks of disease in central London. I didn't realise that.
