The Church of Saint Lawrence

Church of Saint Lawrence, West Wycombe

The church sits on the site of an Iron Age hill fort in the Chilterns, although it's difficult to spot any trace of the fort using Google maps. It's claimed the sphere on the tower was used as a secret meeting place by members of the Hellfire Club. Close to the church is the hexagonal Dashwood Mausoleum build by one of the Hellfire Club's founders, Sir Francis Dashwood.

Fascinating place. Sir Francis won't be forgotten in a hurry, but I suppose that was the intention.

I love the view of the graveyard and all the old tombstones around the church.

I learn so much from your posts... and get inspired to learn even more. Like now, I'm off to google Hellfire Club. :)

Great picture of the church. Churches and building like them are good to focus on. I thought of something similar awhile ago, but I don't have many old churches in my area.
