Common Blackbird

common blackbird, Turdus merula

I've never been much good at taking photos of birds, so I'm always happy for a bit of help from nature. In winter the trees leave nowhere for the birds to hide and eventually I manage to catch a picture or two. I spotted this blackbird this morning while exploring the site of Sleaford Castle.

Were you humming a Beatles tune while snapping away? Perhaps afterward?

Looks a bit like a starling.

I'm not sure what would be more interesting. The castle or the bird. Maybe the bird in the castle.

This is a great shot. It's always so difficult capturing birds. Blackbirds are one of my favorites :)

I don't think we have any all-black blackbirds. We have the red-wind blackbird. It should be showing up here any day!
