Eurasian Coot, Fulica Atra

Common Coot, Fulica atra

The common Eurasian Coot is a plump waterbird similar to a moorhen. I spotted this one foraging by the pond in Saint James's Park, London.

What strange bird. It looks like his cap slipped down his head and in between his eyes.

"English Wilderness" has been included in this weeks A Sunday Drive. I hope this helps to attract even more new visitors here.

I have been looking at your pictures for a long time but I do believe this is my favorite. What a character! With his little hard hat set at such a jaunty angle he looks ready to take a nap.

That is funny. It looks like he's wearing a derby.

So like a moorhen, I don't think I can tell the difference. :(
