Red Dragonfly

red dragonfly

This afternoon we visited Belton House near Grantham. While exploring the gardens I noticed a few red dragonflies hovering around the ponds, possibly Common Darters?

I captured one just recently too (see my blog) and I had not remembered seeing one before...they are gorgeous!
But in looking thru some old photos, I did find a photo I took of one last year. LOL

This looks like the ruby meadowhawk I found last week.

What a cool shot. I love this one. And your little critter friend blends right in with the terrain. A fantastic capture.

You have done well to have taken such a crisp photo of such an illusive creature. It is rare for them to land .... I had a large green one in my garden the other week. Round and round it went almost in a figure of eight and I stood with my camera poised. Even though it remained for more than fifteen minutes constantly circling I still didn't get a picture. Still it was a pleasure to watch!

So cool! We have tons of blue and black ones, but no red ones. Beautiful!

i used to play with green, red, and yellow dragonfly when i was kid. My father in law said that when they fly near the earth can be indicated that rain would come soon.

The Meadowlarks are a late season dragonfly. I shot a few in the last two weeks and believe it to be Ruby Faced although a Yellow-legged is very similar in my guide. It was fun looking you over, saw this site on Nature Center Magazine.
