Richard I of England

Richard the Lionheart, Parliament Square, London

Marochetti's heroic 1860 statue of Richard the Lionheart stands in the shadow of the Houses of Parliament. Richard reigned as king of England from 1189 until his death in 1199.

I love your photos they bring back many memories - when we lived in Switzerland for 4 yrs, we travelled a lot and saw many of these sights. Thanks for reminding me of their beauty!

One of these days I'll get to posting about Richard and my visit to Dover Castle!

These is another lovely photo and I love the details on the House of Parliament in the background.

Is that what is called gothic style?

Hi Emm. The building is gothic, but it's not the kind of building I'd think of as gothic. I guess I don't know much about architecture and read too many horror novels!

I don't know - I can imagine a gargoyle coming to life and sliding down that...
