Lindisfarne Castle stands on Beblowe Crag close to the south-east point of Holy Island. The castle was build in the 16th century to protect the area from the Scottish :-)
Emm: about 50 years after the castle was built James I combined the English, Scottish and Irish thrones so the Scots weren't really a problem.
It was held by the Royalists and attacked by the Parliamentarians during the civil war and occupied briefly by Jacobite rebels before being captured. :-)

Almost like a miniature Mont St Michel, or St Michel's Mount if you want to keep it British. I had no idea it looked like that. Beautiful.
