Castle Rising

Castle Rising, Norfolk

This afternoon we planned to visit Hunstanton but changed our minds en route after spotting a sign for Castle Rising. :-)

The castle was built in the 12th century by William d'Albini (Sir William d'Aubigny “Strong Hand”) and is surrounded by substantial earthworks. The keep is said to be haunted by a woman's scream in the middle of the night, believed to be the spirit of Isabella of France.

What a stunning castle. It is difficult to see from the angle in your second photo but is it partially ruined? I love how sparse it in in the surrounding area! Definitely a castle I'd like to visit.

It's in very good condition! I'd never heard of it before, so I Googled it. Close to Sandringham. Looks good inside too.

The older walls are in pretty good condition, but the internal floors are missing. I noticed a couple of rooms it's impossible to reach...

This is fantastic, man. I like to shoot such a huge structure. But don't like the woman's scream in the middle of the night :)
Cheers..
